Things to do

things_creazione_vasi.jpgWe live in such an interesting part of Italy. The Sannio holds a wealth of sights and activities to enjoy: food, wines, history and the culture of Southern Italy.

Savour the Sannio offers cooking classes and personalized visits to wine, oil and cheese producers. We also arrange excursions to historical sites as well as forages into seasonal events and festivals that take place throughout the region.

The Sannio is a vast territory extending from Montecassino south to Benevento, and from Caserta east as far as Puglia. Due to its size, we specialize in customized tours. Listed here are a few of our most popular itineraries. All tours can be combined and expanded according to your special interests. Prices will depend on the number of participants, type of accommodations required, whether you will require hired transportation and/or a personal guide. Feel free to contact us regarding your personal or group needs.

For nature enthusiasts there are walks in the Matese mountains and a visit to one of the world’s outstanding fossil farms, home of ‘Ciro’, the baby dinosaur over 100 million years old. The mountains of Taburno (as mentioned by Virgil in Georgics) and Partenio covered with forests are also lovely destinations for walks on foot or with donkeys.

things_excursion.jpg Many towns in the region are famous for their traditional crafts such as silk-weaving, pottery, ceramics and it is possible to visit the local artisans in their workshops.

At San Leucio, after visiting the extraordinary 18 th century royal silk factory, it is possible to buy brocades produced locally.

In the hillside towns of San Lorenzello and Cerreto, master potters produce plates, jars, tiles and acquasantiere (holy water fonts). The traditional Cerretese design is a specific combination of light yellow, ultramarine blue and olive green.

Through forward booking, the pottery museum of Cerreto can organise meetings with local potters and some workshops hold pottery courses.
If you would like to add to your stay visits to Caserta, Pompeii, Naples, Capri and Ischia, we can organise these outings as well.
